Reigniting Your Marketing Strategy After a Break
Some of you will know, I fell off the wagon! I let those all-important marketing strategies fall by the wayside. Whether life got busy, burnout crept in, or maybe I simply needed a break, there is a lesson here. Stepping back from your marketing is something many business owners face. But when you're ready to return, it can feel a bit like trying to restart a campfire from a pile of cold ashes. The good news? You can get it going again - and with the right approach, you might even build something better than before.
Here’s how to reignite your marketing strategy with clarity, confidence, and a fresh spark.
1. Start With a Reset, Not Regret
First, let go of guilt. If you've been quiet on socials, haven’t emailed your list in months, or your blog has gathered cobwebs - you’re not alone. What matters now is what you do next, not what you didn’t do.
Take this as an opportunity to pause and reset. Ask yourself:
What’s changed in my business or industry since I last marketed actively?
What kind of marketing actually felt good — and what felt like a chore?
Who am I trying to reach now, and are they the same people I tried to reach before?
2. Reconnect With Your ‘Why’
When marketing feels stale or hard, it's often because we've lost touch with why we're doing it. Before jumping back in, reflect on what lights you up about your work. What stories are worth sharing? What kind of impact do you want to have?
Your ‘why’ becomes the foundation of everything - your voice, your visuals, your message, your platform choices.
3. Choose One Core Channel First
This is an important one - Rather than trying to do all the things at once (hello, overwhelm!), start small. Pick one platform - maybe Instagram, your email list, or your blog - and focus on showing up there consistently for the next month.
Consistency builds confidence. Confidence builds momentum.
4. Show the Behind-the-Scenes
When returning after a break, authenticity wins. You don’t need to pretend you never left. In fact, telling the story of your pause - and what you learned or reimagined during that time - can help rebuild trust and connection.
Let people in. Share the human side. That’s often the most memorable marketing of all.
5. Create a Light Content Plan
You don’t need a detailed six-month strategy to start. Just map out the next 2–4 weeks. Think:
1-2 educational or helpful posts
1 behind-the-scenes moment or story
1 invitation or offer
1 feel-good or personal insight
Keep it simple and aligned with your current energy.
6. Check the Data - Lightly
If you’re ready, look at what used to work. What emails were opened most? Which social posts were shared or saved? What pages of your website get the most traffic? These little clues can guide your new path - but don’t let the numbers overshadow your intuition.
7. Ask For Reconnection
Invite your people back in. A “we’re back” email, a welcome-back Instagram post, or even a poll to ask what they want to see from you can do wonders. It’s not about broadcasting — it’s about starting conversations again.
8. Give Yourself Permission to Evolve
You don’t have to market the same way you did before. Maybe you're now drawn to slower, more intentional marketing. Maybe your audience has shifted. Maybe you have shifted. Let your new marketing reflect that.
Final Thoughts
Marketing after a break doesn’t have to be a big, dramatic relaunch. It can be a gentle return, a quiet hello, a new rhythm that suits you better. Start small, stay consistent, and most importantly - be kind to yourself in the process.
Your spark is still there. Let’s fan it into flame.
